Let’s face it. The matte lip is here to stay. Since it’s resurgence about 5 years ago (thanks Kylie Jenner) there is no doubt that this is a trend that’s sticking around.
But like anything, it may look great on others, but is it going to be right for you? Lots of people are still scared that the matte lip is going to dry out their lips and make them flaky.
One of the great things about Matte lipsticks is their staying power – they last so much longer than cream or gloss based products, so less need to reapply. Tick! Plus, the shades are more pigmented, bolder and deeper, even in the lighter nude tones.
The only negative when using the deeper shades in a matte lipstick, means you don’t have any shine which would make your lips look smaller and some products can make your lips dry – but that’s also where the prep comes in.
Lip moisture is vital as prep before wearing matte lipstick so when you exfoliate your face (no more than once a week) gently, in a circular action, run the product over your lips to buff away any dry skin that your lips may have. Alternatively, you can use a lip scrub or polish and just apply it to your lips. This will create a smoother surface for the matte lipstick to be applied.
